Van Moders entered at the same time as Major Mentor and Perry Rhodan. Despite the hurricane, he had succeeded in arriving at the X-1 with his space glider.

Van Moders gave his report, followed by the commander of the former GAUSS. Both had learned in the meantime that the Laurins had begun to destroy the two hundred artificial suns.

The idea shocker Van Moders once again had an idea. He began to suspect why the hypertronic brain suddenly offered no more resistance to those inside, and never deployed even a single battle machine against them to prevent them from finding their way back to the surface.

Van Moders’ idea consisted of a question. He wanted to know the exact time when the Laurins had begun their destruction of the artificial suns.

An agreement had to exist between the Laurins and the Hypertronicon. Van Moders nodded grimly when Rhodan named the point in time when the first artificial sun had been destroyed.

“It was the exact same minute the brain stopped attacking us, Chief!” he explained. “It is a coldly calculating monster. It must have quickly recognized what we’ve come to expect from the Laurins. It sees the Invisibles as a timely ally who can help it destroy the troublesome cell plasma. We are finished without a fight! Why should the Hypertronicon spend any effort to neutralize us through individual subordinated fighting machines? Hypertronic monsters do not understand what we call time.”

“Good deduction, Van Moders”, said Rhodan in complete acknowledgment. “I share your opinion. But right now we need your advice on a different matter. Our telepaths are standing on the verge of a psychic breakdown. They are no longer in any condition to reinforce the extremely weak impulses of the Central Plasma with their mental powers. I must conclude their assignment within this very hour. When I give the order, Tschubai and Kakuta will jump into the center of the Hypertronic with an Arkonide super bomb. I can’t yet say when I will ignite the bomb. Van Moders, you wanted to interrupt me? Please, what do you have to say?”

“Chief, I don’t like your plan with the bomb . . .”

“I don’t either,” Rhodan interrupted him. “Using bombs as a means to an end has never been to my taste, but the Central Plasma is a thousand times more important to the survival of our galaxy than the existence of the Hypertronicon, which will later try everything it can to subjugate us. Van Moders, we simply can not consider Terrans only, for we have also taken on the responsibility of protecting the life of all other people in the galaxy — even that of the plasma beings, if they can be spoken of in this context. Did you have anything else to add?”

“Let us continue with the deployment of the bomb, Chief, but you must give me time to find out why these fluctuations exist. Over and over again, I keep coming back to the fact that there is a fundamental connection with the destruction of the hate-circuit.
